You can be single and still enjoy! Visited: April 2003

You don't need to be a couple to enjoy the Golden Rock Inn. I traveled to Nevis solo in April 2003. I had no idea what to expect or what I was going to do. I only knew I had seven days to do it in. I had no itinerary.... no schedule....no plans...no cell phone...no beeper..... and not much luggage.

I took the ferry from St. Kitts to Nevis….rode with a wonderfully animated and informative cab driver through Charlestown and up to Golden Rock. I was greeted immediately upon arrival, by the lovely Pam Barry who made me feel incredibly welcome. She introduced me to some of the staff, gave me a tour of the grounds and buildings...complete with a bit of corresponding and fascinating history.

That evening at dinner (and what phenomenal dinners!) I was introduced to other guests and made to feel exceptionally welcome once again...very much like a family gathering with family whose company I actually enjoy! Breakfasts at the Inn were similar…amazing food, great company and pleasant conversation.

A hike to the source, a grand tour of the island, a day at the horse races, roaming the beaches, walking amongst ruins of lime kilns, plantations and archaeological sites which offered glimpses into the islands past were just a few of the activities I enjoyed.

If you are a single traveler and uncertain as to whether or not Golden Rock is for you, well….only you can decide. If you have the need to be entertained by large cities, endless casino lights, high rise hotels, boardwalks, wall to wall people and fast food establishments....this might not be for you.

If on the other hand, you appreciate the infinite starlit night sky, magnificent old stone buildings, the natural beauty of hiking trails, the opportunity to meet new people, good conversation amongst a fine group of people you've previously not met and absolutely incredible food....you are certain to have a very enjoyable experience.

I could go on and on, but I simply could not do Golden Rock or Pam justice. You have to experience the ambiance and comradery for yourself……an awesome combination which is sure to leave you with a lifetime of memories…and the desire to go back….I know I plan to.

Maybe we will even meet during my next visit.

Outstanding relaxation away from the hustle and bustle. Visited: April 2003

A first great visit in 1988 encouraged us to return for an encore performance, 15 years later. We were not disappointed.

Perched 1,000 feet on the side of Mt. Nevis, Golden Rock presented beautiful views of the ocean and Monserrat, 40 miles away on the horizon.

We stayed in Paradise, a single cottage with a wonderful porch and breezes that made every hour of the day enjoyable. Breakfast each morning on the outdoor patio was scrumptious with fresh island fruit and assorted treats. Golden Rock's Pinney's Beach lunch restaurant was a local favorite and served lobster and shrimp sandwiches that lived up to the hype.

If you choose dinner, the four-course meals always included tasty local items and plenty to fill you up. The bar was well stocked and Ralston's rum punch was extra fine.

The service was attentive, and Pam Barry, the owner and host, made the diverse group of guests both feel welcome and special.

For that true getaway where the stress of everyday life melts away - Golden Rock is an outstanding choice.

A lovely and welcoming inn for travelers, not tourists. Visited: April 2003

Our family of five has now stayed at Golden Rock six times, over the course of eleven years. It has always felt like home away from home to us, as has Nevis.

The size and friendliness of the island and its people, the comfortable style of Golden Rock, and the warmth and attention to her guests of proprieter Pam Barry make Golden Rock a place that guests can quickly acclimate to.

Golden Rock attracts travelers from all over the world - many of them repeat guests - who are wonderful to get to know. As a result, going to the evening meal at Golden Rock can feel like being included in a dinner party with fascinating guests (although we sometimes have opted to eat alone as a family and that was fine, too).

Another thing that makes Golden Rock a special place to stay is Pam's efforts to link guests with activities and islanders. For example, this trip, our guide for horseback riding was also the head of Nevis' history museums, our kids had tennis lessons with a wonderful Nevisian with a gift for instructing and inspiring young players in the sport, and we went snorkeling with a marine biologist with an obvious love for the ocean. It was great fun - and special, too.

Nevis has history, beauty, very friendly and welcoming people, beaches, animals that will fascinate kids, activities (we especially love the music), and interesting cuisine. I highly recommend a stay a Golden Rock. To stay at Golden Rock is to connect in a real and memorable way with a very special place in the Caribbean.

We really enjoyed ourselves. Visited: December 2002

My husband and I recently stayed in the windmill of the Inn, as our honeymoon suite. It was more awe-inspiring than the photos we saw on the Internet, with our favorite things about it being the wide window seats (for viewing the Atlantic, Monserrat, Antiqua), the grotto-type shower, and the private patio.

Pam, the owner, was a real delight, as wer Mr. LaRue and Bebe. We felt like old friends after a week, as Pam went out of her way to make us feel like old Island friends.

We look forward to going back for the best lobster sandwiches ever, and more of Pam's wonderful hospitality.
